だい六か – クリスマスとお正月 ぶんぽう

て form review ► Group 1 Verbs ► Have two or more ひらがな in the verb stem AND ► The final sound of the verb stem is from the い row Ex: のみます、はなします、あいます、かえり ます

て form review ► Group 2 Verbs ► Have only one ひらがな in the verb stem OR ► The final sound of the verb stem is from the え row Ex: ねます、います、たべます、まけます

Changing Group 2 Verbs Drop the ます and add て to the verb stem Ex: ねます → ねて います → いて たべます → たべて まけます → まけて

Changing Group 1 Verbs – Step 1 ► Determine the final sound of the verb stem ► It will fall into one of the following categories ► み、に、びよみます、しにます、あそびます ► い、ち、り あいます、かちます、わかり ます ► きききます、かきます ► ぎおよぎます ► しはなします

Changing Group 1 Verbs – Step 2 ► Change the final ひらがな of the verb stem to the appropriate ending

Exceptions There are only TWO いきます → いって Group 1, meaning to go おきます → おきて Acts like group 2, meaning to wake up

Verb た form I know what you’re thinking… Ok sensei, so what? Well, knowing the て form helps us form our new grammar structure, the た form. The た form has two uses: one, it is the plain past tense form! (Yea for being casual!) And two, it can be used before an extender in other grammar forms.

Verb た form So how do we make the た form? No matter the group, you just change the final て/で sound of the て form to た/だ! れい: たべて → たべた ate みて → みた watched; saw いって → いった went よんで → よんだ read して → した did Now you can use the plain past tense form!

Verb た form + ことがある Verb た form + ことがある/あります have done ~ [experience form] Verb た form + ことがない/ありません have never done~ [experience form] This form is used to describe past experience. It is translated as “ever done” or “never done” something. The ending is never put into past tense as already has past tense with the た form.

Verb た form + ことがある Also, it is important that the time expressed is not too close to the present. We are expressing a past experience, so be careful when the experience occurred. Ex. (This is unacceptable!) きのうすしを食べたことがあります。 I have eaten sushi yesterday. (Sounds silly, right?)

Verb た form + ことがある Ex: この本をよんだことがあります。 I have read this book. 私はまだ日本へ行ったことがありません。 I have not gone to Japan yet.

Verb た form + ことがある 書いてみて: Have you ever eaten nigirzushi? にぎりずしを食べたことがありますか。 I have never been to a shrine. じんじゃへ行ったことがありません。
