4 しつもん コーナー 1. Can たかい and せがたかい both be used to express height? 2. In the book there are と s after each item in comparatives (ie. ナルトとワンピースと）. Is it ok to do without the second one? 3. Difference between のほうが and より. What is より marking, when is it used? 4. How do you say “neither” or none of the above if you disapprove of what is being compared? (we haven’t learned this explicitly, but you may be able to guess!)

7 New Grammar: adj/noun + の くろいコップを買いました。あおいのとあかいのも買 いました。 新しい本を買った？ううん、古いのを買った。 かんたんなテストとむずかしいテスト、どちらがいい ですか。 かんたんなのがいいです！

8 Adj/noun + の Here we are looking at an adj + noun, and then an adj + の which replaces the first noun. い adj + noun な adj い adj + の な adj 新しい本を買った？ ううん、古いのを買っ た。 Did you buy a new book?No, I bought an old one.

10 What about noun + の In the past, we learned that 先生のきょうかしょ means… The teacher’s book. So the の is possessive, like an ‘s Now let’s look at a progression. これは先生のきょうかしょですか？ いいえ、先生の ___ じゃな いです。 The second noun is simply omitted.

12 (verb form short, present tense) + つもりだ 今日はえいがを見に行くつもりです。新しいのはでましたか ら。 スーさんのたんじょうびですね。何をあげるつもりですか。 チョコレートをあげるつもりです。 このあき、日本に行く？ 行くつもりだったけど、よやくはできなかった。

13 Short form verb + つもりだ Expressing intentions to do something: このケーキを食べるつもりだ〜 I intend to eat this cake! Since you are explicitly stating that you intend to do something, this implies a very high likeliness of it happening

14 Short form verb + つもりだ There are other forms too: するつもりだった。 (I had the intention to do it) しないつもりだ。 (I have no intention to do it) したつもりだ (NO! this doesn’t work. Must keep the verb in front of つもり in the short present. Manipulate the time with だ or だった。 )

15 週末は何をしますか。 Use short form verb + つもりだ to explain your intentions for the weekend. Ex. 土曜日にえいがを見に行くつもりです。 あたたかいから、こうえんにいくつもりです。 いい学生だから、しゅくだいをするつもりです。

16 Adj/noun + なる What does the verb なる mean? To become. まえは、えんぴつは長かった。今はみじかくなりまし た。 Before, the pencil was long. Now it has become short. 大学の後、先生になるつもりです！ After college, I want to become a teacher!

17 Adj/noun + なる Something changes to something else. It was this way, now it “has become” this other way へただったけど、じょうずになりました。 Be careful of the conjugations. (these will probably NEVER make it to the test…) Let’s look at some examples to see.

19 い adj : あたたかくなる な adj: きれいになる, or げんきになる Noun: スパイダーマンになる あたたかい → (change い to く） → あたたかくなる げんき → (add に ) → げんきになる スパイダーマン → (add に ) → スパイダーマンになる
