Total Peak Performance (Pflops) Total main memory (Tbyte) Peak Performance / CPU (Gflops) Total number of CPUs Earth Simulator (JAMSTEC) 1.31 328 256 (4 cores) 5120 K Computer (Riken) 10.6 1,260 128 (16x8cores) 88,128 エクサと距離を保ちながら、温暖化予測には「地球シミュレータ」が利用される。京より全体性能は落ちるが、温暖化予測モデルを動かすには十分な能力をもち、かつ、運用の自由度が保たれているのが利点。来年度には更新の予定。 ESと京の2つを大きな計算には使っている。京はほかの研究機関の運営で融通が利かないため、CMIP(IPCC)など、計算機運用の柔軟性が求められる課題にはESを使っている。ESはベクトル機なので、見かけほどの計算能力の違いはないことに注意。また来年度は8倍程度のES3に更新予定。問題によってはESの方が速い。京では、たとえば870mグリッドでの全球雲解像モデルなど、問題の規模が大きく野心的な計算を行っている。 Earth Simulator: “medium” size simulations such as CMIP6 experiments. CMIP6にもっとも関連の深い日本のプログラムが、「創生プログラム」。 地球シミュレータを用いた温暖化予測を推進し、CMIP6に対応する体制を整備している。4つの研究テーマに加え、事務局機能の充実も図っている。 4つの研究テーマと事務局の計5つがコンポーネント。AORI, JAMSTEC, MRI, 京大が主要参加機関だが、ほかにも参加機関多数。 Supported by MEXT

7 DIAS for CMIP6? DIAS is coming to an end next March. A follow-on project is likely to be established. Selecting a DIAS member for CDNOT (CMIP Data Node Operating Team). Also a WIP (WGCM Infrastructure Panel) member from Japan? CMIP5で得られたデータの発信には、ESGが採用されている。 日本からはDIASが参加しており、一定の役割を担っている。 Clivar Exchanges No.56

Computer resource The Earth Simulator (1.3PFlops) run by JAMSTEC, plus MRI supercomputer Funding Trying to get funded for follow-on programs of SOUSEI (ends 2017, climate science) and DIAS (ends 2016, ESGF staff)
