他人の状況に自分を委ねる・耳を傾ける 身体．．．身振りで周囲の出来事に反応することは、言葉ではないので、自分が目撃することが可能かどうか(p125-6)　“Putting yourself into the ‘place’ of another person”: “to sense what it is that they’re responding to….to be tuned into something that you then pick up as a witness– not [only] as an interviewer, not [only] as a listener” これに比較する、 「周囲の人々と同じ身体のリズムでいろいろなことに携ったり、同じ速さで動いたり、同じ足どりで歩いたり、等々のことができるようになるべき」　　p21下 “You should be able to engage in the same body rhythms, rate of movement, tapping the feet…as the people around you” p. 129

II.　現場に入り込むこと　その２：Getting into Place (Participant Observation) “The…thing you have to do is cut your life to the bone….to make a world….every world makes sense to people…provides substance for the people, provides a life. And that’s what…you’re trying to get quickly.” p. 127 “you’ve got to…find out what the various classes of individuals are that are involved in the place.” p. 128

現場に入り込むこと　　その３： Getting into Place “You’ve got to decide which class you’re going to study” “You’ve got then to find out about the internal cleavages within the class, and then decide which class you’re going to accept as your own” (p.128)．．．　その人々の内部にある分派について知識を得て、どちらの分派をあなた自身の分派として受け入れるのか決めなければなりません．．．自分を聞いておかなければなりません。」　　p20下 “you have a mix…that isn’t complete mimicry on the one hand, and that isn’t completely retaining your own identity either.”一方で完全なまねごとではないし、かといって自分自身のアイデンティティを完全に保持してもいないという具合にしなければならない」　　p21上 People sometimes assume that if they’re told strategic secrets, that’s a sign that they’re ‘in.’”　　　　　　　　　　　　　What are ‘strategic secrets’?戦略的な秘密は何？

III.　現場を食い物にすること　　その１：Exploiting Place Some set of individuals [is] …aligned against some others 研究する群の人々は、「周囲の誰かに敵対する立場を取っている」かを調べる　p21下～ｐ22上 2.上層・下層とのつき合い方 Your relation to Upper and Lower Groups ….If you’re dealing with a lower group, there’s no way you can start from a higher group” p. 129 「もしも下層の集団を扱おうとするなら、上層の集団からはじめたり、上層の集団とつきあうかを　　コントロールしないといけない」　p22上

III.　現場を食い物にすること　　その２ Exploiting Place “spend at least a year in the field” p. 130 フィールドで一年間は過ごさないと「予期しないいろいろな出来事に遭遇することもない」　 Q: If we do field work for 1 month, how far into the life of the field site can we penetrate? If we cannot enter into the life sufficiently, is there another way to understand the field? 疑問：我々の1ヶ月間のフィールドワークではどのように、どこまで現場の社会の奥へ浸透することができるのか。そして「奥まで」　　よりも他の方法は効果的であるか。

現場を食い物にすること　　Exploiting Place その3：関係のとり方 The “affiliation issue” You can’t move down a social system. You can only move up…. Be with the lowest people first.” p. 130 「あなたは社会システムを下降することはできません。　できるのは社会システムを上昇することだけです。だから、幅広い人々と過ごそうとするなら、　　　　　最下層の人々と最初に過ごしなさい．．．　　　　　　頂点から始めて下に降りていくことはできません。なぜなら　そのとき底辺の人々はあなたが本当は終始スパイだったのだと知る」　　　　P２２上

現場を食い物にすること　 Exploiting Place　 その４：ノーツの取り方 Note-taking Take and revise notes every day / night to keep your memory fresh 記憶が薄らぐ I try to triangulate what people are saying, with events. 「私は人々が言ったことにはほとんど重きをおきません。その代わり私は、人々が言っていることと出来事とを　三角測量するように努めます。」　 3. 　Write “as lushly as you can” (cf. Thick Description). “Put yourself into it.”
