しょ どう What is Shodo? Shodo is Japanese Calligraphy. Shodo is an art form where an ink-dipped brush is used to artistically write Japanese characters. Beginning in elementary school, students learn the basics of calligraphy in ‘penmanship’ classes. Some students attend classes in the evenings and on the weekends to become able to write beautiful Japanese characters.
