This is an expansion of the previous N1 は place に あります/います and Place に Noun が あります/います patterns. In this new construction, the exact position of an object in relation to another object or place can be expressed. It is important to learn that words that indicate position (e.g. front, back, etc.) are considered nouns in Japanese and are to be treated as such.
