Humble and Honorific Language By: Word-Master Leo, Mixer of Ill Beats

Why Bother With It? I mean, I'm never going to use it, right? People you will hear けいご from: ● Cashiers ● Grocery Store Employees ● Waitresses at your favorite cafe ● That lady at the store who refuses to give you more than one sample, that jerk ● Bank employees ● The lady who wraps your purchases up because you weren't listening and she asked if you wanted it gift wrapped. ● Basically, any time you are dealing with customer service and retail people. That is, all the time.

Okay, So People Use It How do I use it? Well, it's pretty easy with a handy-dandy chart: PlainHonorificHumble
4
What if it’s not on the chart? It’s simple! Humble Form: お+ stem +します Honorable Form: お+ stem +になります

びかご(美化語) or Beautiful Language This is the addition of お - or ご - to words. You already know quite a few! Copied straight from wikipedia because I am lazy: 「お / ご」をつける - 店 → お店 / 茶 → お茶 心配 → ご心配 / 飯(めし) → ご飯・・・ Generally! おんよみ:ご くんよみ:お
6
Things I forgot to add earlier Some words have a different form when using けいご : ある → ござる です → でござる (this comes from the form である ) いい → よろしい
7
A Fun Game to Play Next time Ueda corrects you if you use short form with her? Restate the sentence using けいご and she will be mind-blown!
