The cloud, when combined with mobile – something we didn’t even have 8 years ago prior to the introduction of the smartphone by Apple – is enabling users to have something that they never had before – choice. It used to be, that when the user entered the workforce, they were given tools by IT, and those were the only tools they could use. We all wanted those tools to be good, but ultimately the user had to use what they have been given. Now, that is no longer so. If a user feels that they can do their job more effectively by going to the app store and downloading some kind of tool to help them get their job done, they just go and do it.
